ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY

  • Students may fail no more than one class in the immediate preceding semester or quarter.
  • Students must obtain an unweighted grade point average of 2.0 in the immediate preceding semester or quarter.
  • Students in Grade 9 are initially academically eligible until first quarter grades are posted.
  • Students must maintain passing grades in all classes during the season, which is monitored through three-week grade checks by the school administration.

BEHAVIOR

  • Students who are serving a consequence such as a Required Parent Conference, Suspension or who have been referred to law enforcement and/or arrested are ineligible for participation in practice or competition while serving the consequence and up to one year at the principal's discretion.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY

Students determined to be in possession of, or to have used, tobacco, an alcoholic beverage or a controlled substance is in violation of the NIAA Substance Abuse Policy.
  • First Violation requires six competitive weeks of suspension from participation in interscholastic competition. Four weeks of the suspension may be waived if the student successfully completes an appropriate substance abuse intervention program. A student may practice with the team during the suspension period.

  • Second Violation requires a minimum 90-day suspension from participation in interscholastic competition, which shall include a minimum of six competitive weeks of competition. The student must have a substance abuse evaluation assessment conducted by a licensed alcohol and drug counselor within ten days of the suspension. All requirements must be met before athletic eligibility is reinstated. A student may not practice with the team during the suspension period.

  • Third Violation results in ineligibility of the student from interscholastic athletics for the remainder of the student's high school career.

EJECTIONS

  • Students ejected from a contest are suspended from the next contest and cannot be on CCSD property for the game, either home or away.
  • There is no appeal of an ejection or suspension.
  • Ejected players are required to complete the NFHS Sportsmanship course prior to reinstatement.
