Community Service

COMMUNITY SERVICE INFORMATION & OPPORTUNITIES

At our school, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom walls.  We emphasize the value of community service as an integral part of our students’ growth. Taking responsibility for the sake of the community and helping others means generosity, compassion, altruism, and solidarity – values that keep a community intact and vital. That’s why we are committed to nurturing responsible citizens who actively contribute to the betterment of their surroundings. To reflect this approach, Sandy Ridge has a graduation requirement that encourages students to dedicate 25 hours of their time each year to meaningful community service projects. Those who double this requirement by the time they graduate earn an honorary cord, symbolizing their exceptional dedication to serving others and embodying the true spirit of giving back.

Here, you will see certain opportunities for community service. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, students can find other opportunities based on their interests. Below, you can also see useful documents: our guideline for what counts as community service and the Community Service Log Sheet. Log sheets can be taken from the front office and are to be given to the Work-Based Learning Coordinator Mr. Arikan on campus.

INNERVIEW

InnerView is a youth platform for students interested in dedicating themselves to community service and making an impact while doing so. InnverView has a vision based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Also called Global Goals, these 17 goals were “adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.”1

InnerView makes sure students engage in community service with the awareness that they are helping the world reach some of the 17 goals while contributing to the peace and prosperity of a global community. Students can create a free account, pick certain goals for themselves, keep track of their service, log their service hours, and share their service resumes with other people using the website. They can use their service resumes when applying for scholarships, jobs, and colleges.

InnerView has various awards for students for their commitment to making the world a better place. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 3 students from CASLV Sandy Ridge received the Community Service Impact Award as National Award earners. These students were recognized for how much they gave back to their community and as an inspiration for other students.

If you are interested in learning more about the platform, click here.

Note that with InnerView, students would not have to use log sheets and can use the online portal to record all hours. You can also use the platform to find nationwide community service opportunities. When you use Innerview to log service hours, please make sure the supervisor information is available and upload a clear photo proving your participation in the activity. The WBL Coordinator has the authority to confirm hours or dismiss them, and he may ask you to provide more information regarding specific voluntary services you put in the system.
