Coral Academy students participated in the prestigious Berkeley mini Math Tournament!

We are thrilled to announce that our students participated in the prestigious Berkeley mini Math Tournament (BmMT) on April 15, 2023, at the University of California Berkeley. The BmMT is one of the largest student-run math competitions on the West Coast, organized by UC Berkeley students with a passion for spreading mathematics and the spirit of mathematical competition globally. This year, 112 teams with 468 individuals from across the nation competed, and our two teams represented us with distinction. 

 

We are proud to announce that one of our teams secured 7th place in the Team Round. Our students also achieved individual recognition, with Sastha R. receiving “Distinguishable Honorable Mention”, and Ty T. and Tia S. both receiving “Honorable Mention” in the individual Round. To top it off, our students explored the Berkeley campus after the tournament and had the opportunity to converse with Po-Shen Loh*.

*Prof. Loh has been a math professor at Carnegie Mellon University since 2010, and the National Coach of the winning USA International Mathematical Olympiad team since 2014. Through travel, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity, he uncovers math in unexpected places in our everyday lives. His unconventional attitude informs his holistic approach to education and drives him to teach students of all levels, backgrounds, and ages.
