WHAT IS WORK-BASED LEARNING?
According to the new Guide released by the Nevada Department of Education, Work-Based Learning is “an educational strategy that offers students the opportunity to connect classroom learning to authentic business/industry experiences. Work-based learning in Nevada is described as a continuum of experiences that help prepare students for postsecondary education and careers. The goal of work-based learning is to assist students to be college and career ready through authentic connections to business and industry in a field related to the student’s career interest.”
At Sandy Ridge, we want to help our students become better equipped to make informed career choices, foster professional networks, and build the confidence needed to thrive in their future endeavors. We are committed to making sure that there is access to work-based learning opportunities for all students.
According to NDE and based on Nevada’s work-based learning continuum, the suggested work-based learning experiences for different grades are as follows:
Career Exploration | Career Preparation | Career Training |
---|---|---|
Suggested for Grades 4-9 | Suggested for Grades 9-11 | Suggested for Grades 11-12 |
|

A Work-Based Learning Coordinator facilitates student access to work-based learning, making sure the NDE requirements are met, students know what is expected of them in the work site, and each party involved in a specific work-based learning experience has all the information they need.
